Does your home feel old, tired, and like it just doesn’t work anymore?
Maybe the bathroom is cramped, the kitchen is outdated, and the layout never quite flows the way it should. Over time those little frustrations add up. Not enough storage, drafty rooms, and spaces that feel stuck in another decade.
But your home doesn’t have to stay that way.
With the right renovation, you can transform tired spaces into modern, practical rooms designed for the way your family actually lives.
When a young couple in a beautiful old villa on Hospital Hill first approached us, it wasn’t about a bathroom at all. They had a toddler and another baby on the way, and we connected while completing work in another part of their home. As our relationship grew, they shared their dream of a modern, functional bathroom that would better serve their growing family.
What began as a bathroom project soon expanded into a six-week renovation that included the bathroom, powder room, laundry, and finishing trims throughout the lounge, dining, and hallway.
Hospital Hill Villa – Bathroom & Powder Room Renovation
The Renovation Journey
We started by completely gutting the existing bathroom and toilet, straightening uneven walls and floors to prepare for tiles. A new skylight was added to bring in natural light, while the plumbing was upgraded and a mains pressure hot water cylinder installed. To create a warmer, drier home, we laid polythene and insulation before relining.
In the bathroom, we lined the walls with HardieGroove, added mirror cabinets, and built a half-height wall for the toilet alongside a partition wall to separate the bath and shower. Thoughtful details like recessed niches for soap and shampoo bottles, tiled floors, and a fully tiled shower brought modern comfort into the heritage home. We repurposed hardwood flooring to finish the bathroom floor and installed new gib ceilings.
In the powder room, we installed gib and created a dado rail with HardieGroove beneath to achieve a classic half-height wainscot wall that tied in beautifully with the villa’s character.
The Result
The transformation has had a real impact on how this family lives. The powder room is now easily accessible, the bathroom is both practical and beautiful, and the new hot water system ensures reliable showers. The renovation blends modern functionality with the home’s character, creating spaces that feel timeless and comfortable.
Most importantly, this project deepened our relationship with the family — turning an initial small job into a significant renovation and leaving them with a home that will serve them well as their children grow.
